Do Ho Suh Presents His Chromatic Sculptures at Lehmann Maupin

On view in New York until November 5.

Acclaimed South Korean artist Do Ho Suh has unveiled a new solo exhibition at Lehmann Maupin in New York.

The eponymously titled show begins with one of the London-based artist’s signature transparent sculptures — a towering red structure titled Inverted Monument (2022). Made with extruded thermoplastic polyester developed with a robotics team at the Centre for Print Research, UWE Bristol, the series initially started during the pandemic and investigates Suh’s interest in questioning the authority of the artist’s hand.

Suh is also exhibiting new art from his longstanding Specimen series. In each, the artist creates chromatic fabric replicas of various objects from his past and present studio spaces — from doorknobs, corded telephones, light-switches and more.

On the lower level of the gallery, visitors can witness an immersive video installation, Dong in (2022), which displays footage of one of the earliest modernist apartment buildings in the South Korean city of Daegu, just prior to its demolition. The timelapse paints a poignant portrait of homes before its destruction — imploring viewers to consider what we memorialize and why, from the private sphere to our most public domains.

The exhibition is currently on view at Lehmann Maupin New York and will conclude on November 5.
