Raymond Pettibon's Illustrated Works to Fetch Up to $800,000 USD at LA Auction

From the catalogue for the seminal exhibition, “Helter Skelter: L.A. Art in the 1990s.”

Next month, Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA) will auction off 23 drawings by acclaimed American artist and illustrator Raymond Pettibon. These works were included in the catalog for the L.A. Museum of Contemporary Art’s influential 1992 exhibition “Helter Skelter: L.A. Art in the 1990s.” Pettibon’s work is expected to fetch up to $800,000 USD at auction.

“Helter Skelter” displayed the work of 16 artists and sought to reveal the disruptive undercurrents of society by depicting works that referenced sex, violence and alienation. Created with ink, watercolor and acrylic on paper, Pettibon’s illustrations combine image and text, making use of historical content and consumer culture to provide critiques of contemporary society. Other auction highlights include the work of Keith Haring, Ed Ruscha, Hannah Wilke and more.

The auction will take place on February 16 during Frieze LA. From February 7 to 15, the public is welcome to see all available lots during LAMA’s auction preview. For more information on the featured lot, head over to Los Angeles Modern Auction’s website.
