Josh Sperling Showcases "Summertime" Installation in First-Ever Exhibition in Japan

Colorful squiggles and ‘composite’ panels galore.

Following his Case Studyo collaboration, New York-based artist Josh Sperling has now launched his first solo exhibition in Japan. Taking place at Perrotin Tokyo, the exhibition entitled “Summertime” is divided into two parts with each section displaying the artist’s signature sculptural paintings that appear in varying compositions and warm season palettes. The first space displays a gargantuan wall installation that is made of an enfilade of ‘squiggles’ while the second room is devoted to ‘composite’ panel artworks that boast whimsically-shaped canvasses.

“To create his works, Sperling begins the process working with graphic design software to generate digital tiered forms that are then physically fabricated from plywood by an automated hi-tech router, ensuring a degree of perfection unattainable by hand,” said the gallery in a statement.

Tour “Summertime” in the slideshow above and then head over to Perrotin’s website for further details. The exhibition is on view until August 10.
