Take a Look Inside the Museum of Plastic Pop-Up in NYC

A project to encourage the elimination of single-use plastic water bottles.

Incubator Lonely Whale held its latest eco-friendly project in New York this week, installing a temporary Museum of Plastic to help support the elimination of single-use plastic water bottles. The pop-up featured a number of exhibits that shed light on the pollution caused by plastic waste and offered alternatives to combat the problem.

Curated by cultural creators studio Young Hero, the museum was in support of the “Question How You Hydrate” campaign which seeks to protect the ocean. Some of the works included a gigantic receipt calling out the $220 billion USD that plastic water bottles are expected to accrue by 2022 (and the many other things that amount of money could purchase), as well as a digital projection explaining how the ocean could possibly contain more plastic than fish by weight in the year 2050.

The exhibition was on view in SoHo from June 8-June 12 and kicked off in conjunction with World Oceans Day last Saturday. Visit Lonely Whale’s website to learn about its mission to preserve the ocean and check out more of its sustainability projects.
