David Altmejd Launches "The Vibrating Man" Exhibition

His first in Asia.

New York-based artist David Altmejd recently opened his first major exhibition in Asia at the White Cube Hong Kong, coinciding with Art Basel. “The Vibrating Man” will consist of multiple sculptures, as the artist creatively combines crude expressionism with realism.

Using raw materials, the artist manifests a post-apocalyptic fantasy, however, one which is fundamentally positive, restraining as it produces the potential for regeneration, evolution and reinvention.

Sculptures might have heads sprouting out of each other, inverted or sharing a pair of eyes. Some faces happen to be shovelled out entirely, with open wounds exposing depths of mesmerising crystallisation.

Renowned for merging the themes of science, magic, science fiction and gothic romanticism, Altmejd has previously mentioned: “A perfect object for me, is something that is extremely seductive and extremely repulsive at the same time.”

David Altmejd’s “The Vibrating Man” at the White Cube Hong Kong is open now, and is set to run until May 18.
