Zeehan Wazed Displays Chaotic New Paintings In "Reality Show" Exhibition

Exploring “contemporary subconsciousness” across diverse pieces.

New York City’s ABXY Gallery is currently hosting a solo exhibition by emerging artist Zeehan Wazed. Titled “Reality Show,” the presentation features new original works spanning paintings, sculptures, and multimedia pieces. Additionally, a series of paintings are activated by augmented reality — a project made in collaboration between Wazed and filmmaker Ambrose Eng.

Across the colorful new works, Zeehan Wazed fuses abstraction with figuration resulting in intricate compositions that explore “contemporary subconscious” as per the gallery. Subjects such as robots and mythical figures are set against apocalyptic backdrops depicting forest fires and rubble. One particular work titled ‘Hope Floats,’ a giant arm points a loaded gun towards an innocent victim while an endangered whale rescues a sleeping child from deportation at the bottom of the painting.

In regards to Wazed’s signature visuals, the gallery expressed: “Recurring motifs such as hands, eyes, worlds, and wormholes explore themes of individual and collective agency in the human experience at large.”

Check out photos from the exhibition above. “Reality Show” is on view at ABXY Gallery until January 15, 2020.
