A $110 Million USD Basquiat Painting Is Coming Back to NYC

To be on display at the Brooklyn Museum.

One of the most storied art auctions last year involved a Jean-Michel Basquiat painting that sold for a whopping $110.5 million USD at Sotheby’s New York.

The record-breaking Untitled piece was made by the street art savant back in 1982. 41-year-old fashion entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa from Japan purchased the painting, but now the piece is set to make its way back to New York as the Brooklyn Museum is set to display the artwork this month as part of a special exhibit called “One Basquiat.” The piece itself features Basquiat’s signature skeletal motif set against a blue backdrop. After creating the piece, the artist made numerous iteratioes including small works on paper and other large compositions.

“One Basquiat” will be on view at the Brooklyn Museum’s Robert E. Blum Gallery from January 26 through March 11, 2018.
