Watch Artist James Lake Create Intricate Sculptures out of Cardboard

Cardboard is the material of choice for British sculptor James Lake. Since he lost his leg to bone cancer in 1997, the unconventional artist has continued to deconstruct and re-assembles cardboard pieces to create large-scale sculptures that portray human figures. Courtesy of packaging imprint Rajapack, Lake is spotlighted in a new process video entitled “The Art of Recycling” that relays Lake’s reasoning for using cardboard as his artistic medium.
“What you do when you work with cardboard is you give it value by the time, the effort, and the care you put into it. And I think when we come to think about the planet’s resources, actually trying to find a new way to value things and people, it’s very, very important. I’d rather people valued that than value it because it’s made of marble.”
