Here Are the Most Gripping Artworks From Detroit's Mural in the Market 2016

Featuring works from Kevin Lyons, Pantone, OG Slick, Greg Mike & more.

Following last year’s debut, Murals in the Market returns to Detroit for another visual takeover of the city’s historic Eastern Market. Bringing together international artists and local talent in a week-long event, 1xRUN and Inner State Gallery curated and produced a 10-day event where 50 muralists painted live throughout the district. Kevin Lyons delivered his signature humorous caricatures, while the likes of Spain’s Pantone and Germany’s 1010 tackled the walls with mesmerizing motifs. Other artists who toyed with geometric shapes in their visual renderings included Apex 1 and Dalek, whose walls were placed in adjacent to the 1xRUN headquarters where Yok & Sheryo ran a “Ping-Pong Auto Shack” with tattoo service.

Elsewhere, local heroes Ghostbeard and Patchwhiskey combined their cartoon mascots which towered over the sidewalk, Gregmike displayed his versatility in constructing a mural made up of whimsical caricatures and a roaring lion, while OG Slick flaunted his trademark LA hands in retort, with a bold mural nodding at 1967’s Detroit Riots. Check out the recap above and head to 1xRun’s Instagram to stay updated with the contemporary art collective’s endeavors.
