Pen & Paper: Sage Guillory

The Atlanta, Georgia native gives a peek into his cosmic-inspired sketches.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Art “Sage” Guillory‘s artistic roots extend all the way back to early childhood. As a toddler, his meticulous doodles caught the attention of his family. By age five, he was inseparable from the pen, adding in details like knuckles, eye bags, and muscle structures to his figures while his peers were still drawing stick people. Since then, his artistic style has grown into a fascinatingly complex and detailed amalgamation of ancient Greek and Egyptian influences mixed into his own experiences and overactive imagination — cosmic elements often feature strongly in his work, alongside homages to legendary artists such as Picasso, Dali and Alphonse Mucha. Despite his talent, Guillory has only recently come to peace with his own art, a significant step given his refreshingly organic, stream-of-consciousness modus operandi. Having completed a live painting event for Art Basel 2014, Guillory is one name that will only be appearing more often in Atlanta’s growing art scene and beyond. Check out Guillory’s sketchbook above, and head to his Instagram for more on the artist.
