Photographer Captures Chinese Families and Their Belongings Over 11 Years

While New York City is often touted as having 8 Million Stories, that number is vastly amplified when talking about Greater China. In an effort to properly communicate the various stories photographer Ma Hongjie traveled throughout China to capture portraits of families. While the belongings don’t necessarily make the person, they do well to indicate what someone values. With this idea in mind, Ma’s project spans provinces from Sichuan to Shandong and beyond, highlighting Chinese families and their possessions outside of their homes. While updates from the project have popped up around the web over the years, Ma has finally declared it finalized and will be publishing a book, The Family Belongings of Chinese People, which will hit stores later this month.
