Perhaps to the relief of many avid fans of visual artist James Jean, we find his talents on pen and paper despite being best known for his work on paint and canvas. In this Pen & Paper, we’re privy to even more James Jean nostalgia as we flip through his sketchbook riddled with illustrations that hark back to his Fables era. Such creativity and detail stem from Jean’s first and foremost career in comics, having worked with the likes of DC Comics and the previously mentioned series by Bill Willingham. Following this was exposure and opportunities with major fashion brands, publications and record labels that allowed Jean to grow as an artist; a blend of talent and effort awarded him the reputation he now has, establishing himself as a highly sought-after name. With two upcoming exhibitions – “City of Fire” by Arrested Motion in Beverly Hills, California and “Gin & Juice” by Ivory & Black in London – James Jean has his work cut out for him.
