This month marks the debut of controversial, contemporary Chinese artist Ai Weiwei‘s first solo exhibition on Swedish soil. Curated by Tessa Praun at Magasin 3 in Stockholm, the exhibition focuses on the artist’s politically-driven work and addresses mass production, international trade, and socialism as they relate to present-day China and Chinese culture. A commentary on the value of art as well as Mao’s Cultural Revolution and its disregard for China’s past, the exhibit is also home to a reading room that provides articles, interviews, videos and descriptions of Ai Weiwei’s artwork, highlighting his push for social change in China. The Ai Weiwei solo exhibition at Magasin 3 opened to the public on February 3 and is set to remain open through June 10, 2012.
