Although being married to a Beatle and mother to a future international fashion designer could be intimidating or creatively stifling, Linda McCartney never experienced any adverse effects in her situation. Instead, in addition to being a member of Wings, Linda went on to flourish in careers as a vegetarian chef, cookbook-writer and animal rights activist. Her most notable achievement, however, has to have been her professional photography. Linda was the first female photographer to ever be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone (and this was before she married into rock royalty) and her first photobook, Portrait of an Era, is still considered by many to be the definitive aesthetic embodiment of the 1960s. New from the McCartney estate comes the poignant Life in Photographs, a collection of some of Linda’s best work as well as a set of limited edition prints. In addition to capturing a bevy of the world’s most famous musicians including Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Jim Morrison, the book’s most touching moments are its chronicles of Linda’s more intimate times relaxing with family and friends. Sure to be a hit for photography and music fans alike, the glossy hardcover is available now at TASCHEN for $69 USD.
