Traditionally oil and water don’t mix. The surf, hot rod and motorcycle cultures that grew out of Southern California from the ’50s-’70s however, were all connected by the idea of personal freedom and expression, not conforming to the standards of the societies they existed in. The Us Versus Them “Oil & Water” show at Known Gallery was an extreme success for purveyors of quality creation in a variety of different mediums. People lucky enough to attend the show were treated to an exhibition that mixed visual arts with automobile culture. The recap video serves as a testament to all the hard work that went into the show.
