Painter and sculpture Lucien Smith is embarking on his first solo exhibition this month at Ritter/Zamet in London. Born in 1989, the New York-based artist’s “Needle in the Hay” revolves around the struggle of youth. He delves into topics such as anger, self-control, loss of innocence and regret. Some of his pieces include a large-scale sculpture of a degraded football goalpost. He has also constructed, as an installation, obstructions made out of bales of hay that represent obstacles, separation and conflict. Smith’s painting makes an appearance, as a piece created from spraying paint through a fire extinguisher onto canvas. An opening is set for October 6, 2011. The after-party celebration is hosted by Aaron Bondaroff and sponsored by Supreme, and will include performances from NO Fear and DJ Physical Therapy (Ghetto Gothik).
