Artists Nan Goldin and Molly Crabapple Arrested at Pro-Palestine Demonstration in NYC
Criticizing the U.S.’ involvement in supplying weaponry for an alleged genocide.

Artists Nan Goldin and Molly Crabapple were amongst the 200 Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) activists arrested at Monday’s protest in New York City. The group has been vocal in their criticism of Western nations who’ve supplied Israel with weaponry, arguing that it has waged a genocide on the Palestinians, with news outlets reporting there have been over 40,000 Palestinian deaths since the events of October 7, 2023, many of which have been women and children, and roughly 1,200 Israeli casualties.
JVP protestors were seen wearing red tees bearing the words “Not In Our Name” and “Stop Arming Israel,” with several members being Holocaust survivors and local teachers, such as Rosalind Petchesky, the distinguished professor of political science at Hunter College, City University of New York, who chained herself to the Wall Street gates. “I’m proud to be arrested with them if it helps amplify our message,” Goldin told Hyperallergic.
Wall Street was a symbolic choice for the demonstration, as arms suppliers, such as the U.S.’ biggest manufacturers Lockheed Martin and RTX, have seen record stock prices over the past year. “Every day we see a new, unspeakable Israeli war crime on our smartphones,” Crabapple added in the Hyperallergic interview. “Israeli bombs flatten apartment buildings in Beirut and burn Palestinian patients alive in Gaza.”
Thus far, the U.S. has supplied $17.9b USD in aid to Israel, according to a Brown University report.
