Library Street Collective and Louis Buhl & Co. Are Raising Funds for a New Skatepark in Detroit

The one-night exhibition will feature work from Geoff McFetridge, Shepard Fairey, Heather Day and more.

More than just a gallery, Library Street Collective has steadily cemented itself as a promising cultural center for the city of Detroit and the country at-large. Back in February, LSC’s co-founders Anthony and JJ Curis announced their plans to create an ambitious new arts campus in the city’s East Village that will serve as a collaborative space for local and international talent.

To complement the development, LSC and sister gallery, Louis Buhl & Co., will host It Takes a Village, a one-night exhibition to raise funds for a new public skatepark in the area. Made in conjunction with Jefferson East Inc., the burgeoning project is designed by Tony Hawk, artist McArthur Binion and will be built by New Line Skateparks.

Both galleries have compiled an extraordinary list of prominent and emerging artists, including Shepard Fairey, Judy Bowman, Heather Day, Geoff McFetridge, Cleon Peterson, Tyrrell Winston and many more.

It Takes a Village will also celebrate Library Street Collective’s 10-year anniversary. “The occasion signifies a new chapter for the gallery as we enter our expansion into the East Village neighborhood, with plans along with the City of Detroit to designate the area as the city’s next cultural district. A soon-to-be fundamental component of this ambitious development, the skatepark will empower daily joy and play, while uniquely immersing the community in the greater world of art—Library Street Collective’s predominant goal since its inception,” said Anthony Curis in a statement.

The exhibition will take place at Library Street Collective and Louis Buhl and Co. in Downtown Detroit on Friday, September 2, from 7 to 9pm ET.

In related news, Thank You Skateboards will auction exclusive decks for charity.
