Hauser & Wirth Announce a New Gallery in Paris

Opening next year in the 8th arrondissement.

As one of the world’s biggest galleries, it’s a surprise that it’s taken this long for Hauser & Wirth to have a permanent location in Paris. That will change next year as the mega-gallery adds a new space in Paris’ 8th arrondissement.

Currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, Hauser & Wirth boasts 14 gallery spaces across the world and is busy expanding in a number of metropolises, including another location in London, along with a second space in Los Angeles. “We have made no secret that we have been looking for the perfect home for Hauser and Wirth in Paris for some years and I’m delighted that the search is now over,” gallery co-founder Iwan Wirth said in a statement.

“The city has been part of Hauser & Wirth’s life—and its plans—since our earliest days three decades ago, but even more than this it’s a font of inspiration and exchange for our artists,” added gallery president, Marc Payot, in an interview with ARTnews.

Hauser & Wirth Paris will occupy an entire hôtel particulier dating back to the 19th Century. Located on the right bank of the River Seine close to the Champs-Élysées, the gallery will cover 800 square meters over four floors and be designed by Paris-based architect Luis Laplace, who has worked closely with the gallery since 2013.

Across the pond, Hexton Gallery will present an extensive exhibition on Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
