Case Studyo Presents the Final Collaboration With the Late-Artist Joyce Pensato

‘BATMAN MASK’ is an edition of 20 and available now.

Case Studyo unveiled the fourth and final artist collaboration with the late-Joyce Pensato today. Having passed away in 2019 at the age of 77, the influential American artist was well-known for a gestural punk aesthetic that often referenced cartoon characters from Disney, The Simpsons and beyond.

As the title reflects, BATMAN MASK features the dark knight’s emblematic veil inspired by a papier-mâché mask kept by Pensato in her studio. Over the years, the object accumulated layers of splattered paint, along with everything from clippings of celebrities and cartoons to stuffed animals. Like her enigmatic personality, Pensato’s own studio became a study of her oeuvre, with portions of the space featuring as installations in exhibitions, such as “Fuggetabout It (Redux)” which went on view last year at Petzel Gallery.

Cast in bronze, the work was authorized by Pensato during her lifetime and produced by the Joyce Pensato Foundation posthumously. Like Batman’s tragic backstory, the artwork continues Pensato’s lifelong survey on American pop culture and the darkness that broods under the seemingly wholesome veneer.

BATMAN MASK is an edition of 20 plus four artist proofs and is packaged in a screen-printed collectors box. For those looking to purchase, please contact Case Studyo.

In case you missed it, Takahiro Komuro worked with Avant Arte on a new sculpture dubbed Ground Dragon.
