Andy Blank Teams up With the NBA on a Limited Run of Basketball Tabletop Sculptures

Available to purchase at the artist’s webshop on April 9 at noon ET.

As part of its 75th-anniversary celebration, the NBA has made a big push to showcase the past and future direction of the game through the realm of art. The league recently worked closely with Victor Solomon in redesigning a number of trophies, including the NBA All-Star Game honors, the G-League trophies, along with the new Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion award.

To follow, the NBA is reteaming with Andy Blank on a series of sculptures inspired by the centerpiece of the game — the basketball. Handmade and cast in the artist’s Brooklyn studio, each half basketball is made of solid plaster and captures the minute details of the ball — from the grip and grooved cahnnels on the surface to the iconic Wilson logo, which has returned as the league’s official game ball this season.

Instead of the traditional dark orange hue seen across most basketballs, the artist has created each of the four limited-edition tabletop sculptures in pastel colorways, with 75 of each color available for purchase at AndyBlank.com on April 9 at noon ET.

Elsewhere, Poster House is exhibiting art from the seminal sports film Tokyo Olympiad.
