The Estate of J.R.R. Tolkien Launches Website Showcasing Unreleased Art

Featuring drawings, illustrations, maps and photographs from the prolific author.

Lord of the Rings fans are already reeling off the much anticipated The Rings of Power prequel series, which will start airing on September 2. To add to the hype, The Tolkien Estate has unveiled a new website featuring previously unseen drawings and sketches from the acclaimed author.

World-renowned for creating one of the most cherished fantasy tales in recent memory, Tolkien was also a talented artist who had a particular affinity for mapmaking. This subtle act of world-building became an integral element for both the book and subsequent film adaptations.

Scroll through the new website to find a range of maps and illustrations Tolkien created for The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion, along with rarely seen photographs of the author and his family. The estate symbolically launched the website on February 26, which on the same day in 3019, the Fellowship of the Ring was broken, casting Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee on their long arduous journey to save Middle Earth.
