Rachel Hayden Releases Vibrant Series of Paintings via PLATFORM

Available to purchase until March 1, 2022.

Rachel Hayden is a contemporary artist best known for her relatable iconography that seeks order in chaos by puzzle-piecing together a handful of objects into balanced and symmetrical compositions. In conjunction with David Zwirner-backed PLATFORM, the Baltimore-based artist has released a new series of paintings.

Emblematic of her past work, each incorporates a number of anthropomorphic objects inside a vibrant chain-link border — symbolically protecting the contents from escaping the fleeting magical scene. “In painting, I’m seeking logic and control in the mess of life,” said Hayden in a past interview with Juxtapoz. Hayden looks for constants — images and motifs that will always be present in her life. She treats these objects as prized possessions — floating in between souvenirs and icons — from mysterious rainbows, colorful fruits and shooting stars, to tropical motifs and iridescent animals and insects.

Hayden draws from this bank of images to build her own visual lexicon, arranging her paintings by removing clutter, leaving a full composition where objects float harmoniously in mid-air without touching each other or the edge of the chain border. Moth Trapped in a Rose Knot, Triple Moth Magic Trick and Fruit Bowl Held High are available to purchase between $2400-2700 USD until March 1, 2022 on PLATFORM.
