Raheem Sterling Is Working With the National Portrait Gallery on a New Youth Arts Program

The project will provide participants with a series of workshops pertaining to themes of self-identity and representation.

England and Chelsea footballer Raheem Sterling is working with London’s National Portrait Gallery (NGA) on a new arts program entitled Making of Me.

The project continues the Raheem Sterling Foundation‘s mission to empower the youth through education, employment and social mobility. As first reported by The Art Newspaper, Making of Me will grant “30 young people from London the chance to learn a variety of skills and the knowledge needed to progress into future creative careers”, according to a statement by the NPG.

Each participant will attend 12 workshops pertaining to themes of self-identity and representation, in which they will subsequently be asked to recreate a photographic or portrait painting inspired by an artwork from the NGA’s collection.

“Following the Making of Me project, the Raheem Sterling Foundation and National Portrait Gallery will consider further collaborations nationally and internationally in the future,” the NPG statement added.
