An Immersive Hockney Exhibition Will Open in London
The artist will personally narrate the show.
David Hockney is the latest artist to have his own immersive exhibition. Unlike many similar themed shows, however, the artist will have an active part in shaping the narrative of this project. “They are just using Van Gogh and Monet, and they’re dead. They can’t add anything to it,” Hockney joked. “Well, I’m still alive, so I can make things work better.”
Opening in January 2023 at the Lightroom in Kings Cross, David Hockney: Bigger & Closer (not smaller & further away) takes visitors on an immersive trip down memory lane, revisiting some of his most iconic paintings. The show is broken down into six chapters where the artist himself narrates and guides the audience through 50 minutes of wall-to-wall monitors projecting an ethereal display of colors.
“The world is very, very beautiful if you look at it, but most people don’t look very much,” said Hockney in one of the voiceovers. “They scan the ground in front of them so they can walk, they don’t really look at things incredibly well, with an intensity. I do.”
Made in conjunction with the London Theatre Company and 59 Productions, tickets for the exhibition are available to purchase for $30 USD for adults, and $18 USD for students.
