Banksy Accuses GUESS of Stealing His Artwork

Further urging shoplifters to target its London store.

After confirming seven new murals in Ukraine, the anonymous British artist Banksy now takes to Instagram to defend one of his works which he accuses the brand GUESS of helping themselves to without asking.

The artist posts a picture of the GUESS store on Regent Street in London which features a mural of one of his most popular works, Love Is In The Air (Flower Thrower), which was previously fractionalized and sold as 10,000 separate NFTs. With a following of 11.6 million, Banksy asks “shoplifters” to target the location in the embedded caption.

“Attention all shoplifters. Please go to GUESS on Regent Street. They’ve helped themselves to my artwork without asking, how can it be wrong for you to do the same to their clothes?”

GUESS originally advertised the capsule collection on display as a collaboration with BRANDALISED, which is described as a graffiti license whose mission is to offer Banksy fans affordable graffiti collectibles. Following the post, GUESS closed the store and covered up the display with security seen stationed outside.

GUESS chief creative officer Marciano previously spoke of the collection saying, “The graffiti of Banksy has had a phenomenal influence that resonates throughout popular culture. This new capsule collection with Brandalised is a way for fashion to show its gratitude.”
