Almine Rech Spotlights Wide Range of Work by Alexander Calder

On view in Paris until November 12.

Almine Rech unveiled a new exhibition spotlighting the work of legendary American artist, Alexander Calder. Housed at the gallery’s Matignon location in Paris, the show presents a large assortment of work, including paper-based studies, jewelry made with brass and wire, along with his signature mobile sculptures.

Calder Unfolding intends to give a glimpse into the artist’s far-reaching interests. Many of the paper-based work is executed in ink and gouache, subtly reflecting energetic hues and shapes inspired by Calder’s lifelong fascination with the circus. Also on view are a series of intricate jewelry made in wire, a material that the artist always carried with him and used as a medium to express his thoughts.

The gallery is also showcasing two of Calder’s kinetic sculptures — a tabletop work, titled Puntos Blancos (1955), along with a hanging piece made with sheet metal affixed to cascading wire tendrils. Calder Unfolding opened last week and will be on view in Paris until November 12.

Elsewhere, Printed Matter NY Art Book Fair returned after a three-year hiatus.
