KAWS Picks Changbai Mountain As the Next Stop for Companion's “Holiday” Art Tour

Cascading over China’s Jilin Province.

Coming off a strong 2021 full of solo exhibitions at The Brooklyn Museum and at The Mori Art Center Gallery in Tokyo, KAWS is back with the eighth stop of his “KAWS:HOLIDAY” tour, this time touching down at Changbai Mountain in Jilin Province, China.

The Jilin installation reveals two KAWS “Companion” sculptures nestled atop the region’s mountainous snowcaps, providing a cinematic art view much like its previous tour stops in Taipei, Hong Kong, Mount Fuji and outer-space. Traveling since 2018, the exhibit has partnered again with AllRightsReserved to organize the larger-than-life showcase, with sponsorship being provided by The North Face.

An exclusive capsule collection of limited-edition items include special-made reusable hand warmers to stave off the mountain’s cold chill, a limited-edition snow globe decoration and an 8.5-inch “COMPANION” figure in brown, black and snowy-white colors. Wearable collection items include a grey and navy zip-up hoodie that features the KAWS “Companion” iconography on the front and back.

Speaking about the new art installation, KAWS says “This location in the Changbai Mountain is such an incredible environment and it’s an honor to have the opportunity to show my work here.”

“With all of the challenges people are facing around the globe, I think it’s a very important time to have public art,” he adds.

The Changbai Mountain exhibit will be open to the public starting January 7-16, at Changbaishan Luneng Resort, Manjiang Town, Fusong County, Baishan City, Jilin Province, P.R. China. Exhibit collectibles will be sold exclusively at the DDT Store on January 7 at 10 p.m. ET, and January 8 at 11 a.m. HKT, with items shipping in March.

In other news, a ready-to-wear collection collab between KAWS and The North Face is also being teased.
