Kyoko Hamaguchi Has Unveiled “Light Time Story” at Milan’s F2T Gallery

Her first solo exhibition in Italy.

Kyoko Hamaguchi was born and raised in Tokyo but now calls New York City home. As a conceptual mixed-media artist, her work takes common communication tools readily available in society and transforms them into transient images that reflect her experiences as an immigrant.

To mark her first show in Italy, Milan’s F2T Gallery has unveiled a new solo exhibition, entitled, “Light Time Story.” Working across photography, sculpture, and installation, Hamaguchi investigates the movement and transformation that takes place within these seemingly mundane objects that maintain the flow of society. Instances of this can be seen in the way she repurposes old postal boxes — where the artist applies photo emulsion to its surface, then ships them to herself and observes the many ways in which these parcels acquire unique marks and imagery by literally recording the scenes of its journey.

The artist received her MFA from Hunter College in New York and a BFA from Tokyo University of the Arts. She has exhibited around the world — from a number of galleries in her native Japan, to SPRING/BREAK Art Show in New York and her latest show at F2T, which will be on view until October 23.

Also on view, Olafur Eliasson has unveiled a new installation at The Art Space 193.
