Daniel Arsham Brings His "Future Relics" Aesthetic to Tiffany & Co.

A collaborative bangle and box that transports the American jeweler to the far distant future.

Tiffany & Co. recently made headlines with a campaign featuring Jay-Z and Beyoncé alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Equals Pi painting. The American jeweler continues its foray into the arts with a new collaboration with Daniel Arsham. Titled, Blue Box, Circa 3021, the release sees Arsham utilize his signature “Future Relics” aesthetic in creating the Bronze Eroded Tiffany Blue Box.

Limited to an edition of 49 sculptures, the eroded blue box continues the artist’s fascination with reimagining modern cultural objects as if excavated in a far distant future. Inside the sculpture lies a brilliant Tiffany Knot bangle in 18k white gold with diamonds and tsavorites — a color that is both an homage to Tiffany, who debuted the gemstone in 1974, along with a cheeky nod to Arsham, who frequently uses the color. “When I started to evaluate my intervention within the box, it’s also very similar to some of the patination that I use in bronze, which is how we got to this kind of translation between the original cardboard Tiffany Blue Box into this bronze patina box,” said Arsham.

Bringing the collaboration together is a sturdy Tiffany Blue carrying case that features branding from both parties and metal hinges to safely move and store the item. Having worked across various intricate sculptures in his studio, Arsham hails this release as the first sculpture he’s worked on at this level of craft.

“I think jewelry in some ways is about desire and expectation, literally the opening of the box and not knowing what’s inside is part of that experience,” said the artist. Tiffany & Co. x Daniel Arsham‘s Blue Box, Circa 3021 will release on September 9 at Tiffany’s New York flagship store.

Elsewhere, SPRING/BREAK Art Show will return to NYC’s Madison Avenue for Armory Arts Week.
