Brain Dead Enlists Michael Decker as the First Artist to Exhibit at the New Fabrications Store

A gallery space nestled in the heart of Silverlake.

Brain Dead recently unveiled a new brick-and-mortar in the heart of the Sunset/Silverlake Junction. The grand opening saw swarms of people line up blocks to check out the new partnership with Dickies, along with a host of hardware, accessories, and a DJ set by founder Kyle Ng.

Unique to the lot is a room that will serve as an art gallery, which will feature a new body of work every six weeks. For the inaugural show, Ng tapped his friend, contemporary artist, Michael Decker who presented an exhibition, entitled “A Mugs Life.” Decker is a multi-disciplinary artist with a penchant for collecting mundane objects and breathing life into them. For his work on view, the artist gathered an assortment of mugs bought at thrift stores, broke them into pieces, and resurrected them into a number of sculptures and table lamps.

Decker’s aesthetic explores the peculiarities of American consumerism through the repurposing of daily objects. Unique to the collaboration with Brain Dead is a hanging artwork made entirely of restitched t-shirts, featuring an explosion of cartoon nostalgia.

Be sure to check out “A Mugs Life” as it goes on view over the coming weeks at Brain Dead Fabrications.
