Wu Yue's Surrealist Works Take Over Chicago's Anthony Gallery in "Wonder Years"

Collagist-style pieces that explore art “in the age of immense, social, political and cultural change.”

Wu Yue is a visual artist from Beijing who specializes in creating dynamic compositions that merge pop culture subjects with surrealist forms. Currently based in Paris, Yue’s interdisciplinary practice includes graphic design, illustration and experimentations with bleach on canvas. His meticulously-drawn figures has attracted special commissions by a slew of leading brands including Nike, adidas and Comme des Garçons.

Yue is currently the focus of a solo exhibition at Easy Otabor’s Anthony Gallery in Chicago. Entitled “Wonder Years,” the artist presents a selection of diverse pieces that explore the past and the future while reimagining “art in the age of immense social, political and cultural change.”

Highlighted works on display include sprawling collagist-style piece depicting a dinosaur skeleton, Michael Jordan dunking and intricately-drawn human hands in a celestial setting. Another work features Casper the Friendly Ghost as the main subject of a composition with juxtaposing elements on the canvas including an anatomical figure and mountain-scapes.

Elsewhere in art, Gagosian Beverly Hills will soon launch an exhibition of sculptures by renowned architect Frank Gehry.
