CJ Hendry Heads Home for New Exhibition Series "STRAYA"

The interactive exhibition will begin on May 21.

Known for her remarkable hyper-photorealistic pencil drawings, CJ Hendry makes her way back home to Australia after a seven-year hiatus for another fun exhibition series entitled “STRAYA” (slang for Australia).

For the homecoming exhibition, she created a two-part series based on “Australianisms,” with the first part kicking off with a public art installment nationwide. Hendry and her team are currently on a road trip from May 10 to May 20, as they put up custom street signs with a variety of Australian slangs like “yeah nah,”
gday,” “hard yakka” and more.

The Australian-born, New York-based artist has been posting daily Instagram stories for those who want to follow along the journey to check out the street signs first hand.

Followed by part two of “STRAYA”, an interactive exhibition showcasing her artworks will commence from May 21 to May 23 at a location yet to be disclosed on May 20 on Hendry’s Instagram. The exhibit will feature 28 small pieces and 2 large pieces of drawn crumpled playing cards from her “straya slanguage” card game as well as 10 limited edition lenticular signs with 100 of each made.

Accompanying the artworks are merchandise such as a ‘straya slanguage’ card game, towels, pins, prints and “bugger bandaids.” For more information about the “STRAYA” series, head over to CJ Hendry’s official website.
