Daniel Arsham Imagines Alternate Histories of the Moon in 'LUNAR PRINTS' Release

Inspired by his original ‘Blue Moon’ series of paintings.

Archive Editions is an emerging art platform based in Hong Kong that is dedicated to purveying a range of high quality art objects with leading contemporary artists. For the company’s inaugural release, Daniel Arsham was commissioned to launch a series of LUNAR PRINTS inspired by his original paintings that explore alternate histories of the moon. Entitled Deep Wall and Square Out on the Moon, these works portray the moon containing rectilinear excavations — an exploration that touches on the artist’s ongoing Future Relic series that challenges the definitions of iconic ephemera.

Moreover, the pieces recall Arsham’s 2016 Blue Moon paintings which he made after receiving specialized lenses for correcting his colorblindness. “It is hardest for the colorblind to see colors in shadow, and with these particular works Arsham had special blue paint produced with 5 times the amount of pigment used in normal paint,” as per a press statement. In regards to the project, the artist expressed: “I’ve always been interested in imagining these alternate histories of the moon where land art excavations are present.”

Each 18” x 14” print was created with eight individual screens on archival paper. Arriving in a limited edition of 300, LUNAR PRINTS come encased in a custom Arsham Studio designed linen box. Moreover, each print is hand-signed and numbered by the artist on the included certificate of authenticity card. The editions will be available to purchase on the Archive Editions WeChat official account, ID:ArchiveEditions. The raffle will commence on April 29 with winners to be notified on April 30.
