IKEA Recruits Daniel Arsham and Four Other Artists for 2021 Art Event Collection

Creating artworks that also work as functional homeware.

IKEA has unveiled its latest Art Event collection, working with five artists from around the world to create new artworks that also function as household items. The ten pieces in the collection all aim to make art more available and accessible to people, with prices ranging from £19 GBP to £50 GBP (approximately $26 USD to $70 USD).

Arguably the stand-out piece in the sixth Art Event collection is a collaboration with Daniel Arsham. For this design, Arsham has created a clock designed to look as if it is flying through time. As well as working the Arsham, IKEA has collaborated with Japan-based Gelchop, for a series of Allen key-themed lights and lamps, and Humans since 1982 for a series of wall decorations.

Rounding out the Art Event collection is a throw and vase designed by Germany’s Stefan Marx, and two LED lamps by Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis.

Take a look at all of the art-meets-design pieces in the gallery above. IKEA’s Art Event collection is due to release in May of this year.

In other art news, Sotheby’s has announced an upcoming NFT collaboration with Pak.
