Yoon Hyup Crafts New Abstract Paintings "While You Sleep"

On view at AISHONANZUKA in Hong Kong.

Not long ago, Yoon Hyup unveiled limited edition sculptures of his newly-created character called the Juggler. The New York City-based artist released the collectibles to commemorate his latest solo exhibition at Hong Kong’s AISHONANZUKA gallery. Entitled “While You Sleep,” the Korean artist unveils a fresh selection of vibrant abstract paintings featuring cityscapes rendered in his signature line and dot motif.

The exhibition marks a departure from Hyup’s nature-themed paintings as the artist crafts varying compositions of cities in different points of views and locations. One of the highlights is a series of four vertical canvas pieces (Sound of Friday 10, Slowly, Diamond Sky, Tomorrow) which is the artist’s new attempt to merge different places while challenging the concept of time.

“In his work, Yoon freely uses lines and dots to draw a minimalistic landscape from a unique perspective. Components of various cultures, he has experienced, are strongly reflected in his works,” said the gallery in a statement. “The rhythm and improvisation in music, the flexibility & radical perspective in street culture are some of the creative inputs that transform into lines, dots, ‘rhythms’ and colors in his works.”

Elsewhere in art, Ghana’s ADA \ contemporary art gallery is hosting a solo exhibition of new paintings by the rising artist Zandile Tshabalala.
