Brooklyn Museum Announces KAWS-Inspired Art Classes

All part of the upcoming “KAWS: WHAT PARTY” exhibition.

New York’s governor Andrew Cuomo announced the opening of cultural institutions from the end of August 2020 after being closed for most of the year due to COVID-19 lockdown measures. Amongst the stand-out exhibitions revealed by Brooklyn Museum as part of its reopening rollout plan is “KAWS: WHAT PARTY” presented by Dior with more details now emerging.

Having found common ground between the worlds of art, popular culture and commerce, the exhibition is a retrospective look at the work of Brooklyn-based artist KAWS aka Brian Donnelly. Running from February 26 – September 5, 2021, it’s the artist’s first physical exhibition since the pandemic. Showcasing his history from street artist to globally revered icon, it will feature over 100 of his pieces including early-career subvertisements, collaborative works, furniture and monumental sculptures of his trademark characters in addition to exhibition exclusives.

Along with the selection of works from his extensive catalog, KAWS continues his partnership with the digital art platform Acute Art allowing visitors to interact with the sculptures to create a unique experience through augmented reality. Brooklyn Museum will also be hosting KAWS-inspired classes for all ages beginning in March, encouraging the creation of art from home accompanied by live instructor guidance.

You can book tickets to Brooklyn Museum’s “KAWS: WHAT PARTY” and other exhibitions through the website.
