Coco Capitán Releases 'Naïvy' Book to Commemorate First London Exhibition

A full documentation of the artist’s namesake show and large-scale images of her maritime-inspired paintings.

Following Coco Capitán‘s first solo exhibition in London, Maximillian William has collaborated with the award-winning InOtherWords imprint to publish a book entitled Naïvy. The comprehensive archive style book features full documentation of the namesake show and a newly commissioned essay by Charlotte Eytan.

The presentation, which launched this past October, revolved around the artist’s longstanding fascination with the sea and the mythology of maritime culture. The presentation marks the artist’s first in London for four years, displaying works that explore themes such as freedom, escape, and the unknown. Highlights in the book include large-scale photographs of Capitán’s paintings and artist-embellished found objects.

“Capitán takes the sea and its attendant themes of adventure and isolation as a framework through which to reimagine a collection of works; some are new, some are old, and as is characteristic for the multimedia artist, the selection spans multiple mediums: photographs sit alongside paintings, ephemera next to handwritten texts,” as per a statement by the gallery.

Get a closer look at the Naïvy book in the slideshow above and then head to Maximillian William’s website to learn more.
