Antonio M. Xoubanova Releases 'GRAFFITI'

Exploring the parallels between 1970s graffiti culture and social media.

Antonio M. Xoubanova is a Spanish photographer and teacher with an affinity for documenting urban iconography. In his latest book, GRAFFITI, the Madrid-based photographer evokes the urban artistic movement that manifested in 1970s New York, but draws a parallel to how social media has become the walls in which users proclaim their existence.

GRAFFITI is a four-year collection of striking visuals that range subjects from communication and nature to social networking. The sequence of images presents both the multiplicity and the redundancy of an ever more vital affirmation of self — whether for the individual or collective — in the form of a book.

By transcending the unorthodox binding and unstructured page layout, the book reflects the free and identity-affirming aspect inherent to graffiti. Published by RVB Books, GRAFFITI is 304 pages in length and available for $43 USD, along with a special edition version that runs for $237 USD.
