RIMOWA Is Exhibiting Sculptural Artwork in the Heart of Paris

A list of international artists were commissioned to reuse the brand’s signature aluminum metal.

Aluminum has become a badge of identity for RIMOWA since it first used the material in 1937. More than just a luggage manufacturer, however, the German brand has become a patron of the arts through film collaborations, along with a series of exhibitions such as “As Seen By.”

In conjunction with the art collective, The Community, “As Seen By” was started before the pandemic as a way for RIMOWA to inject their curatorial eye to champion the arts. Due to the closures of the COVID crisis, the luxury brand took the time to commission a list of prominent and emerging artists to use its signature aluminum material, along with various spare parts to create unique sculptural artwork.

The resulting exhibition is currently being held at Dover Street Market‘s new 3537 outpost in Paris’ buzzing Le Marais district. The list of artists includes Atelier Sohn, Irina Lotarevich and Quentin Vuong, amongst the many. RIMOWA chose this diverse cast of international talent for their dedicated craftsmanship and unorthodox visual expression.

Additionally, the luxury luggage manufacturer will also showcase a number of upcoming collections prior to being launched — from its lightest ever suitcase, the Essential Lite Cabin XS — to the Original Cabin Moon, a suitcase with an aluminum shell that was made to mimic the lunar surface.

“As Seen By” will be on view until October 21 before embarking on a world tour. Check out the fill list of artists exhibiting below.
