A Bookset on Paul McCartney’s Lyrics Will Release Next Month

Featuring 962 pages of songwriting, alongside unreleased paintings, photographs, and illustrations by the artist.

Earlier this year, Julien’s Auctions hosted a special sale to mark the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles historic break up. Amongst the standout pieces during the event, handwritten lyrics to the hit track Hey Jude sold for a whopping $910,000 USD — over nine times its original estimate.

There is an upcoming art book set dedicated exclusively to McCartney’s lyrics. Although it contains only reproductions of his storied work, the $100 USD price tag is far less expensive and filled with more content than the aforementioned auction sale.

The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present is split between two volumes that feature 154 of McCartneys greatest song lyrics — from his earliest days in Liverpool, the decade recording with Wings, to his most recent solo career. More than just a collection of text, the book is packed with photographs and previously unseen paintings and illustrations by the legendary musician.

Published by Liveright, the set is 962 pages in length and features an elegant green linen slipcase with minimally designed type on the cover. The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present releases on November 2 and is available at many different online and physical bookshops, such as Amazon or Los Angeles’ Skylight Books.

In case you missed it, Phaidon will also publish a comprehensive look at contemporary African art.
