H.R. Giger and Hajime Sorayama's Works Honored in New Art Book

The book includes a 50 x 70cm double-sided poster.

Hajime Sorayama and H.R. Giger‘s dual exhibition is currently on view at Shibuya PARCO in Tokyo, pairing artworks of the former artist’s xenomorph creatures with Sorayama’s sexy robots. On top of the mishmashed works presented, the exhibition just released an artbook dedicated to the unique collaboration.

This book was published by KALEIDOSCOPE, co-curated by Alessio Ascari and Shinji Nanzuka and was designed by Swiss-based art studio Kasper-Florio. It features a critical essay by Venus Lau and an interview with H.R. Giger and Hajime Sorayama. The book pits Soyama’s work against Giger’s, where Sorayama’s “super-realism” challenges Giger’s surrealism. Both artists emerged in the ’70s and ’80s, building reputations as masters of airbrush painting. Comparing their signature styles, their works are juxtaposed throughout the book, highlighting where the two artists differ but also share some similarities. Moreover, the book includes a 50 x 70cm double-sided poster and two 20cm stickers.

KALEIDOSCOPE‘s “GIGER x SORAYAMA” artbook is currently available on KALEIDOSCOPE‘s website for €80 EUR (approximately $90 USD).

In case you missed it, here’s a look at Medicom Toy and H.R. Giger’s biomechanical BE@RBRICKs.
