Unseen LeRoy Neiman Drawings Inspire New DRAWN Exhibition

Featuring over 200 pieces from 60 artists across the globe.

Following the discovery of unseen works by the late American artist LeRoy Neiman, arts organisation SECCA has announced the launch of DRAWN: Concept & Craft, an exhibition featuring over 200 works from a wide range of artists from around the world.

The concept of DRAWN began after several sketchbooks were found in the New York-based studio of the late Neiman. The stark difference between the drawings covering the pages of the sketchbooks compared to Neiman’s often witty and tongue-in-cheek public works was obvious and something revealing about the artist himself. The sketchbooks revealed depictions of struggle and pain in drawings of Malcolm X, Cassius Clay and James Baldwin, revealing a never before seen take from the artist.

Taking influence from this, DRAWN sets about bringing together works from 60 artists from across the world taking a deeper look into creative processes and artists’ relationships with the art of drawing. The exhibition is set to feature works from the likes of Kara Walker, Sanford Biggers, Fab 5 Freddy, Kiki Smith, Buckminster Fuller, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Shirin Neshat, and Sarah Sze, among many others.

DRAWN: Concept & Craft is on view September 12 through to February 15, 2021. Visit the SECCA website for more information.
