The Metropolitan Museum of Art Breathes New Life Into Kidrobot Dunny Figures

Inspired by iconic works by the museum’s permanent collection.

Paul Budnitz founded Kidrobot in his California garage back in 2002 with the simple desire to make art toys with his friends who were mostly street artists and designers. Since then, the company gained recognition for leading the designer toy craze stateside throughout the 2000s and spearheaded collaborations with about everyone from the Gorillaz to BAPE on a number of figures.

One of Kidrobot’s most popular in-house designs was the three-inch Dunny characters that were sold in blind boxes to prevent the buyer from knowing which one in the series he or she was about to purchase. The renowned toymaker now takes the wraps off a new Dunny collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art to commemorate the institution’s 150th anniversary this year.

The collectibles arrive in 3- and 8-inch options, featuring all-over printed graphics inspired by iconic works of art from the museum’s permanent collection. The series includes Van Gogh’s Irises, Hokusai’s Great Wave as well as one of Mondrian’s colorful compositions embellished on the bunny-looking mascot.

The full collection can only be found at Kidrobot’s website and The Met Store. Prices range between $24-$150 USD.
