Plastic Gallery Honors Kobe Bryant in New "8/24" Virtual Exhibition

Powerful portraits by photographer Michael Muller.

In honor of what would have been Kobe Bryant’s 42nd birthday on August 23, Plastic Gallery is presenting never-before-seen photographs of the five-time NBA champion by American artist Michael Muller. Titled “8/24 : Kobe Bryant,” the virtual exhibition includes photographs taken from the last decade that capture Bryant’s fierceness and competitive spirit. This is the first release of Muller’s MAMBA series.

The exhibition includes powerful portraits of Kobe, capturing his raw emotions as he dawns his Los Angeles Lakers jersey for one of the last times before retirement. Some black and white shots feature intimate close-ups of Bryant, while others show him on the court amid the arena lights and cheering crowds. A portion of proceeds of the entire show will benefit the GENESIS organization, which increases access to STEAM education by delivering inter-disciplinary and interactive learning opportunities for children, youth, parents and teachers.

Take a closer look at some of the installation views above. “8/24 : Kobe Bryant” is live now on Plastic Gallery’s website.

In related news, Hong Kong’s The Real Project is paying tribute to Kobe Bryant with a “8-24” exhibition featuring the works of Adam Lister, Santlov and more.
