Dallas Contemporary to Reopen With Major Yoshitomo Nara Exhibition
A selection of works from 2006 to the present.
Although the coronavirus pandemic forced museums to shut their doors for months, Dallas Contemporary has announced its reopening to the public on January 30, 2021. The museum will reopen with four new exhibitions, including a major solo exhibition by Yoshitomo Nara. Other shows will feature the works of Austin-based artist Ariel René Jackson, Italian photographer Paolo Roversi and Chinese artist Liu Xiaodong.
Dallas Contemporary’s survey of Nara, which is curated by Adjunct Curator Pedro Alonzo, will bring together a large selection of works from 2006 to the present, many of which are being exhibited for the first time. Paintings, drawings and sculpture will be displayed alongside a slideshow of photographs taken by the artist during his recent trips. Through his oeuvre, Nara offers a meditation on a person’s freedom of imagination and emotive capacities.
In his newest works exhibited at Dallas Contemporary, Nara explores and expresses his place in today’s world through an introspective lens, while channeling his views on a broad range of topics, such as nuclear disarmament, environmental activism and the tragic ramifications of Japan’s 2011 earthquake.
The exhibition will launch on the same day as the museum’s opening, January 30, and run until August 22, 2021.
Elsewhere in art, Yayoi Kusama’s Narcissus Garden is now on view at The Momentary in Bentonville, Arkansas.
