Banksy's Homage to Basquiat Appears at Auction For First Time

‘Banksquiat’ is expected to collect up to £55,000 (approximately $70,000 USD).

A rare Banksy entitled ‘Banksquiat’ has appeared at auction for the first time on Artsy, in partnership with the up and coming East London auction house Tate Ward.

Estimated to sell for up to £55,000 (approximately $70,000 USD), ‘Banksquiat’ pays homage to legendary street art pioneer Jean-Michel Basquiat and highlights his recent commodification, by commodifying Basquiat himself.

Despite Coronavirus, art auctions have continued to exceed expectations with a recent auction seeing a 2017 Banksy triptych entitled Mediterrainan View selling for £2.2m (roughly $2.8 million USD). The Tate Ward auction house itself sold over £700,000 (approximately $920,000 USD) worth of art in their June sale alone.

This sale also includes more works by Banksy, as well as pieces from KAWS, Tracey Emin, Andy Warhol and Daniel Arsham. You can bid for ‘Banksquiat’ here, before bidding closes on August 25 4PM (BST).
