In solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, Miami’s Museum of Graffiti recently launched a new exhibition titled “The Fabric of America: Artists in Protest.” The institution enlisted over 30 local graffiti artists and illustrators to create protest art on denim jackets evoking the signage observed at nationwide demonstrations.

Accompanying the textile-based works is a sprawling mural titled AMERICAN HISTORY located near the museum at NW 25th Street and 3rd Avenue. “Focusing on the Black experience in US history starting in the early 1800s through current day, the giant mural, curated by the Museum of Graffiti, tackles the subjects of police brutality, racial injustice, and resistance,” as per a statement.

Moreover, the museum launched limited edition prints by Futura, Tristan Eaton and Cey Adams.Futura’s three-color print references the American flag, but with bold phrasing replacing the red and white stripes. Phrases such as “racism is the pandemic” and “silence is violence” are observed in the composition. The print is priced at $75 USD apiece and measures 18 by 24 inches. It will be released on the Museum of Graffiti’s website this July 29 at noon ET. All of Futura’s portion of the proceeds will benefit Empowered Youth, a nonprofit organization in Wynwood that serves inner city youth.

The Museum of Graffiti is currently open to the public with safety-first procedures, including an admission system that only allows for six people to enter the premises every 15 minutes.

Elsewhere, art world real estate broker Jonathan Travis has organized a virtual exhibition called “Life Still” that is raising money for the NAACP Legal Fund and the Food Bank for New York City.
