Shohei Otomo Illustrates the Seven Legendary Swords in New Print Edition

Available as a set of seven.

Acclaimed Japanese manga artist Shohei Otomo returns with a set of seven new prints depicting the mystical Seven Legendary Swords of the contemporary battle field. Measuring 5.8 by 16.5 inches, each print features a meticulously-rendered illustration of the seven weapons, including the butterfly knife, crowbar, bokken, bat, golf-club, hammer and sushi knife.

The work was originally created by Otomo for the Hong Kong exhibition of “Reiwa,” which includes a body of work that reflects Japan’s cultural transformation during the Heisei era, while simultaneously attempting to speculate into its future. The Seven Legendary Swords showcases the artist’s delicate and highly-detailed drawings that blur the worlds of art, illustration, anime and cyber-punk. The works are printed on archival Hahnemühle Bamboo 290gsm with archival ink and the sushi knife of each set is hand-signed.

Take a closer look at Shohei Otomo’s The Seven Legendary Swords open edition print in the slideshow above. The artwork is available now on SHDW. gallery’s website for $250 USD.

In other news, Jenny Holzer and Avant Arte have joined forces on a new work that raises awareness of the ongoing fight against AIDS.
