re—inc Auctions off Tobin Heath's Contemplative 'Proxemics' Painting

A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Black Trans Femmes in the Arts collective.

As protests continue across the country following the death of George Floyd, lifestyle brand re—inc is supporting the Black Trans Femmes in the Arts collective by auctioning off an original painting by Tobin Heath. Usually, the brand releases each new collection with an accompanying piece of art; the artwork acts as both the inspiration and physical representation of the collection’s theme. In light of the current protests against police brutality and systemic racism, the work envisions “the space between the world that was and the world that will be.” Measuring 48 by 48 inches, the painting is Heath’s fifth re—inc artwork.

Aptly named Proxemics, the painting “bridges the space between tension of expressing one’s truth and eventual joy that comes with accepting ourselves,” re—inc explains. “It expresses both the strain of expectations and the freedom of individuality. It embraces the space between moments.” While Heath’s previous piece, Pixelation, was created in the time between U.S. women’s national soccer team games and training, Proxemics was painted in her art studio during quarantine. Black and white squares are placed upon a rainbow-colored grid; colors subtly blend into and build upon each other.

re—inc will donate 17 percent of proceeds from the auction to the aforementioned collective, which aims to create space for Black trans women and non-binary femmes in the arts and beyond. Place a bid for a chance to own this original artwork on re—inc’s website. The current bid is $3,100 USD.
